What is Sustainability? Part 2: Environmental Sustainability

All development involves change, and these changes impact environmental resources. Impacts can be of short duration and direct (e.g. land use change) or long term and indirect (e.g. air pollution). Environmental sustainability focuses on the preservation of these resources for use by future generations. This can be achieved through either the management of the environment or management of human consumption (by consuming less and making production processes more efficient).
